The Riverside County Library System will be providing Express Service only beginning Tuesday, December 8, at all of our locations that were previously open to the public. While our library buildings still remain closed to the public, Express Service will allow you to pick up holds you have placed.
Here is how it works:
1. Call the Library once you have received notification that your hold is available to let them know when you will pick up your holds.
2. Make sure to have a face covering with you as you must wear one while picking up your holds.
3. Pick up your holds at the designated area; please make sure to have your library card or photo ID with you. If you need assistance or have any questions, call the library upon your arrival.
4. Celebrate and enjoy finally being able to borrow library materials again!
5. Return your materials to outside book drops only.
Outside Book Drops:
Outside book drops at participating Express Service locations are open. Please return items to these outside book drops only, and do not attempt to bring in or hand to staff. All returned materials will be quarantined before being reissued again, as recommended by health and safety officials. All due dates on existing checkouts will be extended appropriately in order for items to not become overdue. Due dates on new checkouts will follow normal checkout periods. Please check your account to make sure your materials are returned by their due dates. Please note: due to items being quarantined, you may not see them removed from your account for a few days, but all return dates will be backdated to reflect the day you dropped items off.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What are the hours my local library is open for Express Service?
Hours vary per location. Please contact (http://www.rivlib.info/website/contact-us-691) your library for current hours.
Are all locations providing Express Service?
Some of our facilities remain closed and are unable to provide Express Service. Please visit individual branch pages on our website for updated information.
What about the bookmobiles?
The bookmobiles are currently providing Express Service only, so will continue to operate.
Where can I return my library materials?
Please return library items to the outside book drops only. Please do not attempt to bring them into the library or hand to staff directly.
If I placed a hold before you closed, will it still be available to come pick up?
Yes! You will receive a hold pickup notification. When you do, please call the library to schedule a pickup time.
How do I place a new hold?
Go here (http://www.rivlib.info/website/faqs-697) for instructions in placing holds. Call your library should you need further assistance.
Can I check out materials without placing holds?
Staff will only be checking out materials that have been placed on hold, but you can visit the instructions above for help, or chat, email or call your library for more assistance.
Why are the items I returned yesterday still on my account?
For the safety of staff, you, and to adhere to current safety guidelines as set out by the CDC and other organizations, returned library materials will be quarantined for 5 days prior to checking them in and making them available for checkout again. Don’t worry, we will back date when checking items in so that they won’t go overdue.
What if I have holds waiting to be picked up at a branch that is still closed?
We will be unable to retrieve these materials, so you will need to wait until that location reopens.
Are you accepting donations during Express Service?
We are not accepting donations at this time and until further notice.
I forgot to bring a face covering. Is there any way I can retrieve my items now that I’m here?
Library staff will not checkout your materials to you without proper face covering. Please just call us and staff will be happy to work with you in arranging another pickup time.
